Superoxide dismutase is a metalloenzyme composed of protein chains with metal cofactors (such as copper, zinc, manganese, or iron). It appears as a blue-green or off-white lyophilized powder, odorless. Soluble in water and buffered solutions. Commonly used as an antioxidant ingredient in cosmetic and personal care products (such as anti-aging creams, serums, and masks) to protect skin from environmental stressors. Also functions as a preservative in certain food and beverage applications, as well as a stabilizer in industrial biochemical processes. Stable when stored at low temperatures and protected from light and moisture.
