Tetrabutylphosphonium Bromide CAS 3115-68-2

Tetrabutylphosphonium bromide is a quaternary phosphonium salt with the chemical formula (C₄H₉)₄PBr. It appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder or solid, with a faint characteristic odor. Soluble in water and polar organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, and acetonitrile. Commonly used as a phase-transfer catalyst in organic synthesis, a stabilizer for halide anions, and an electrolyte additive in electrochemical applications. Also functions as a template agent in the synthesis of molecular sieves and as an intermediate in the preparation of ionic liquids and other specialty chemicals. Stable under normal storage conditions and hygroscopic; should be kept in tightly sealed containers away from moisture.
